Portrait Painting Masterclass with Jennifer Mcrae RSA

Monday 16th to Sunday 20th July 2012

Hospitalfield is delighted to host a 5 day masterclass with the award winning portrait artist Jennifer Mcrae in July 2012. Jennifer will be concluding her month long residency here at Hospitalfield House by offering this wonderful opportunity for portrait painting enthusiasts. Set in the historical surroundings of Hospitalfield House, this promises to be a first class, unique, inspiring and memorable experience. 
 
"The aim of this course is to encourage individual vision while strengthening skills in visual awareness and the practice of paint, the student creating initial studies both in drawing and painting as a means to express what is there. The emphasis is on both observation and instinct, allowing the painting to form through each student’s own creative thought processes. Selection in relation to the composition during the preparatory stages allows for a detachment from the subject which is invaluable. A great portrait is a great painting, the subject forming without a forcing of character, but allowing the person to emerge through the painter’s own creative and instinctive decisions. This course is aimed at strengthening these decisions."

Date:
Monday 16th  to Friday 20th July 2012
Residential participants may choose between two arrival and departure times: Sunday evening between 4-5pm to Friday evening or Monday morning between 8-9am to Saturday morning.

Places available:
20 Residential or Non Residential places available.

The Artist:
Practising from her Southwark studio in London since 2002, Jennifer Mcrae is celebrated for her portraits through a host of prestigious awards including the BP Portrait Award, Hunting Art Prizes, Singer Friedlander and Kaupthing Watercolour prizes, Morrison Scottish Portrait Award, Honorary Society of Painter Stainers Award and most recently she was the winner of the RWS/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. Level:
Tailored to the individual.
Open to participants wishing to maintain their practice, beginners seeking instruction and those wishing to further develop skills. This course will also be of interest to portfolio builders. Some previous painting experience is preferable.

Accommodation:
Full board based on two per room, equivalent of five whole day tariff. Inclusive of breakfast, lunch, evening meal & refreshments throughout day.

Deadline:
Applications must be received with deposit - 8th of June 2012.
Places are only confirmed on receipt of full deposit.
Payment in full must be received by Friday the 6th July 2012.

£595 Residential
All inclusive. Equivalent of five whole day tariff.

£395 Non Residential
Arrival Monday 9:00am. Departure Friday 6pm.Lunch & refreshments.
