Weekend Poetry Retreat with resident poet Kenneth Steven

Friday 4th to Sunday 6th May 2012

Poetry RetreatA widely published writer of fiction for adults and children alike, Kenneth Steven is first and foremost a poet. Seven of his collections and a volume of selected work have appeared to date. He was commissioned a number of years back to compile two handbooks on the writing and publishing of poetry respectively. He reads from his work widely at home in Scotland and abroad, and is making an increasing number of poetry programmes for BBC Radio.

“This course will seek, through talks and workshops, to offer as much guidance as possible on the writing and crafting of poems, from that first moment of inspiration, to the final stage of editing. Handouts relating to all of this and more will be provided; with an opportunity for participants to have one-to-one time with the tutor. For that reason, please bring work-in-progress for discussion, as well as one or several poems by someone whom you particularly admire. The intention is that this should be a time of serious focus in an atmosphere of good humour and warmth.”
